Thomas specializes in dispute resolution as well as corporate and capital markets law.

In dispute resolution, a focus of his work has been to advise and represent clients in cartel damage lawsuits before German and European courts, where he has acted as counsel in a number of pending high stakes cases across a broad range of sectors – from consumer goods and TV ads to chemicals and air cargo.  His clients describe him as “an excellent strategic adviser and a pragmatic litigator” (Chambers 2019) and as “one of the brightest lawyers in this space” (Who’s Who Legal 2018). Competitors also recognize his work as a litigator (“Champions League professional – pulls no punches, but always collegial”, JUVE Handbuch 2019).

His corporate practice comprises primarily corporate governance matters, corporate reorganizations and equity financing.  Thomas also advises on D&O liability issues, including D&O liability insurance. Clients describe his work as "excellent [and] covering the full range of corporate law and related areas" (JUVE Handbook 2023).

With a formal background in both economics and law, Thomas always has a strong focus on the crucial economic parameters of a case. In disputes and settlement negotiations, he can rely on extensive experience using relevant economics-based evidence. This, too, has earned praise from clients (“has remarkable talent in comprehensively analyzing economic and legal aspects”, JUVE Handbuch 2018)

Thomas features prominently in leading attorneys’ rankings. JUVE lists him among the "leading names for corporate law" under the age of 50 and regards him as an “often recommended attorney” for dispute resolution, as does Chambers (for “Competition/European Law”). In recognition of his litigation work, Who’s Who Legal listed him in its “Future Leaders Competition” segment (partners under the age of 45) as “most highly regarded” individual (#1) in Europe in 2018; Legal 500 Germany counts him as one of the “Names of the next generation” in this area.

Since 2018, Thomas has been a university lecturer at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg.
